Project in the Nieuwmarkt district

In 2016 and 2017, as a geriatric physiotherapist, I conducted research on the fall risk for elderly people in public spaces in the Nieuwmarkt district of Amsterdam. My research revealed important insights. 

One was that, despite their physical limitations and the risks in public spaces, older people want to keep living in this neighbourhood. People contending with many health problems said there were not enough places to stop and rest, on their way to the Albert Heijn supermarket in Jodenbreestraat for example.

Since I conducted my research, it has been my dream to provide benches on local streets as a gift to senior citizens who walk along these streets on their way to the Albert Heijn supermarket. Streets such as Anthoniesbreestraat, Jodenbreestraat and Nieuw Uilenburgstraat.

You can see examples of these benches below. They are a little higher than usual to make it easier to sit and stand. And there are armrests. There is also one with space for a rollator, which is a nice feature.

It is now my ambition to make this dream come true. Needless to say, this is quite a project! My aim is to achieve it by my next birthday.
