Walking training

Gertrud Pijnenburg offers supervised walking training for patients diagnosed with intermittent claudication. For this form of physiotherapy to be covered by your basic health insurance, you need a referral from a vascular specialist or GP.

Intermittent claudication, also known as vascular claudication, is a symptom of peripheral arterial disease (PAD). It means there are narrowed or blocked arteries in the legs, which is caused by arteriosclerosis or hardening of the arteries. This reduces blood flow to the legs so not enough oxygen reaches your muscles when you walk. This can be very painful.

Walking therapy improves blood flow. With supervised training on a treadmill at the practice, you can learn to walk through the pain.

Gertrud is a member of the Chronisch ZorgNet network and follows its recommended treatment protocol.
